"We want to win. We are determined to win, and believe that the system we're in we can win, and should win."
So my running is going really well right now and it's making me feel motivated to win some races. I'm running a 5k on May 19th that should be pretty chill and I'll definitely be going for the win there. The time I want to run is 16:50 or lower, but that might change due to how difficult the course is. This season I decided to always go for the win and not the time and not be afraid to race. In the past I haven't done much racing and that has hurt me. The experience is very needed and it will get my mentality for racing down while I'm younger. There isn't much of a point in being fast if I never prove it or use it to my advantage. Training is nice, but training and seeing results is better.
These are some changes I made to my training schedule since the last block I made.
- More base work; training that makes your aerobic system stronger and gets your body prepared for the harder work.
- Training to be a miler instead of an 800 runner; the training it takes for the mile will make me better off aerobically, which is my weak point.
- Less general speed work; I was doing too much general speed that didn't help me much in the 800.
- Less quality work in general; I just don't think my legs can handle three workouts a week, a long run and a decent amount of mileage.
- More specific speed work; these will have less volume and be faster paced, but will make it so I will be prepared to race the 800-5k
- More consistency; pretty simple reasoning behind this, I'm sure most people will understand this.
- Less plyometric work in warmups and cooldowns; that's how my quad problems started last time, so I'll tone it down a bit.
- More relaxing when I'm not running; I just need to relax in my free time instead of playing games or browsing the interwebz.
There is something going on with my achilles that scares the shit out of me. Its getting to be more like a pinpoint than a tightness over time. I guess I should start doing eccentric heel drops again. The funny thing about my running is that there is always something bothering me no matter how much time I take off and how I train. It would be nice to get a solid year of training in to see what I'm made of.
In chess I went 2-3, but my ranking still went up by 5 points so it wasn't an awful night. I guess over time I'll regress to the mean.
My diet is awful right now and I'm barely hanging on. There just isn't enough healthy food or filling food to feel good about my eating.
